Back to the Lab

final-poster

Date: Nov 1st, 2014

There have been stories told over the years of a secret lab, where strange experiments were rumored to have been conducted by the Hades Corporation. Only the most groundbreaking and dangerous projects were conducted in this facility.

On the day after Halloween 1984, the lab’s communications went dark. A team was sent in to investigate, but only found dead bodies. The lab’s founder was never seen again. The laboratory was abandoned after the mysterious “accident”, and all evidence pointed to the founder of the laboratory going insane. One of the last people to see her alive said that she had been babbling about strange worlds: 8 bit portals, parties in some sort of nightosphere and various other nonsense!

Eden Prime: Dark Fracture

Date: June 27th-30th, 2014

Eden Prime: Dark Fracture was a continuation of our summer Micro-Festival from last summer, “Journey to Eden Prime“. This 4 day “Out-Of-This-World” alien themed event fused music, art, theatrics, visuals and all you amazing folks to create what was unilaterally and unequivocally ONE hell of a good time. Even with a landslide that temporarily stranded us at the location.

This unique event allowed attendees to immerse themselves in this alien world and become part of the atmosphere themselves by choosing sides and immersing themselves into one of our sub themes that are featured throughout the storyline and be able to root for their team. This event also featured micro-games and scheduled activities and missions put forth by your team’s MISSION MASTER. At the end of the day, Helios won the battle, but members of the Hades Corporation remain on this alien world…

Ascension of the Atlanteans

Poster for Ascension of the Atlanteans

Date: April 19th, 2014

Ascension of the Atlanteans is the latest in a series of themed events from the Caturday universe that took place April 19th, 2014 at the Rickshaw Theatre. After the success of the introduction of theatrical performances throughout the night at 8 bit Reloaded, we wanted to continue to improve the quality of the performances but also continue to step up the interactive aspect of both the performances and the event itself. The 4 theatrical scenes of the production ended in a slow-motion battle scene follow by a rousing speech to the crowd. The theatrical improvements combined with custom stage design, visuals, lighting, decorations, and themed dj sets over an Application Audio sound system really solidified the vibe of this underwater adventure.

We had a large cast for this performance, and they tirelessly trained on a weekly basis for months to put that production together, but as always there are so many different roles that are all provided by volunteers within our community and we truly couldn’t do it without them. It’s truly spectacular to see what we can accomplish when we work together!

Special thanks to Application Audio for the incredible sound as always, and the Rickshaw Theatre for providing such an incredible venue.

8 bit Reloaded: Press Start to Continue

Date: Nov 15th, 2013

8 bit Reloaded: Press Start to Continue is a continuation of our 8 bit Adventure event theme that took place November 15th, 2013 at the Rickshaw Theatre. We wanted to really make the theme interactive, immersive and engaging this time so we worked hard to create a unique storyline and proceeded to let a tale unfold in between dj sets at the event. This unique theatrical element combined with custom space invader stage with custom visuals, projection mapping, themed artwork and an Application Audio sound system helped to make this a fantastic event. Long story short, Mario united the video game worlds to help repel the Space Invader Invasion and saved Mario World!

Thank you to all the people who tirelessly put in their time and effort to help make this really special! We are a community, and it is amazing to see what we can accomplish when we work together!

Special thanks to Application Audio for the incredible sound, and the Rickshaw Theatre for providing such an incredible venue.

Journey to Eden Prime

Date: June 28th, 2013

The Journey to Eden Prime took attendees on a voyage to an alien world just outside our galaxy (Squamish) on Canada day long weekend, June 28th – July 1st 2013. The alien world was pristine, green and filled with incredible music.

We had received unconfirmed reports that the aliens of this planet listen to strange hypnotic sounds and loved to dance. Attendees were treated to a custom Alien stage and music all weekend and also received various workshops opportunities including Massage, Poi, and Soldering. On the opening night of the event we also had a special theatrical introduction to Eden Prime from an Alien elder and a traditional alien dance from the Queen and two young aliens.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped out with this event including “Team Awesome”, who provided an amazing hammock dome for relaxation during the day and so much more! Thank you to Radio Toxic for the great coverage of the event!

Party In The Nightosphere

Date: Nov 3rd, 2012

Party in the Nightosphere was an adventure time themed event that happened at The Fall, in downtown Vancouver. This was our first indoor event that we actually charged an entry fee for. Thank you to to all the attendees who came out in your wonderful Adventure Time themed costumes!

8 bit Adventure

Date: July 28th, 2012

8 bit Adventure was another outdoor event located around UBC provided by DONATION. This video game themed event was our first experiment adding theatrics and storyline to our events. At the party, Mario attempted to unite the video game worlds and brought video game characters together for a night of partying featuring a special live Street Fighter match between Ken and Ryu, and various other performances. Unfortunately during the performances, a crucial machine that would have permanently opened a portal between the video game worlds was sabotaged by Space Invader spies, leaving the machine useless.

Thank you to to all our volunteers and attendees who came out in costume and stayed till the end helping to carry our gear back up that cliff!

Green Eggs and JAMS

Date: May 19, 2012

This was our first outdoor event, yet definitely had an amazing vibe as it was by DONATION. We had Sam-I-Ambassadors (our party hosts) guide our guests to a secret location along the UBC highway and along a forest trail that was lit with seussian style mushroom lights. As they arrived at the base of the trail guests entered the WOMP SWAMP to behold glowing truffula trees, silly seussian characters and a lit up dome. We had decorations and costumes straight out of Dr Seuss and plenty of amazing music!

Thank you to everyone who came out to this event, and helped make this night so amazing! We had such a good time at this party that we actually didn’t want to leave. The sun rose… and the party continued.
